The Structure of the School

Leonteio Lykeio belongs to the Catholic Church and is run by the Community of the Marist Brothers (Frères Maristes), a group of Catholic monks dedicated to education. It is a non-profit co-educational private school, founded in 1838.
The institution is characterised by the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect, encouraging the exchange of ideas and opinions among all parties (directors, teachers, administrative staff, students and parents).
Leonteio Lykeio (N. S.) comprises two primary schools (‘Chrysostomos Smyrnis’ and ‘St. Dionysios’), and a secondary school. The school premises are spacious (25, 000 m2) and the modern facilities cater for the students’needs. As part of the curriculum two foreign languages, French and English, are taught at both educational levels (primary and secondary). The French language is taught following an enhanced teaching programme whereas English is taught according to the syllabus of the Ministry of Education.

Primary School
Apart from the main primary school teacher of each class, the staff includes teachers specialised in foreign languages, art, music, computers and physical education. There are four classes per grade in ‘Chrysostomos Smyrnis’ and two in ‘St. Dionysios’.

Secondary School

In the secondary school, there are four classes per grade. Students are further divided into smaller groups when foreign languages, computer science, music, art, specialist and optional subjects are taught.

- Special classrooms for the art, foreign language and music lessons
- A screening room for educational purposes equipped with a PC, a DVD and an overhead projector.

- A theatre with a seating capacity of 900 people fully equipped with electronic devices and audio-visual aids

- An infirmary run by a registered nurse

Furthermore,
- All classrooms and laboratories are fully geared with the necessary equipment for effective teaching and learning.
- Primary and secondary students have access to a comprehensive lending library, run by an experienced librarian.
- A doctor is readily available in case of an emergency.
- There is a church, which seats 450 people, on the premises of the secondary school, available to all students for religious practices.
- Compulsory insurance for personal injury while being at school (plus one hour before the beginning and one hour after the end of the lessons) is provided to all students.
